Fatigue strength of anodised aluminium alloy.
Abstract:
ESDU 87026 presents in graphical form (alternating stress plotted against endurance) the results extracted from the literature of over 900 constant amplitude tests on chromic or sulphuric acid anodised specimens. Each graph relates to one specification of material, either a copper or zinc alloy, and includes data for unanodised specimens so that the effect of anodising is clearly seen. Also included is a limited number of data for fatigue under variable amplitude loading. For each test point, tables detail the treatments involved in both pre- and post-anodising processes. The results of the comparisons are discussed and conclusions are drawn on the effect of anodised layer thickness, post-anodising sealants, material specification, material grain direction in relation to the loading, and cladding prior to anodising.Indexed under:
