ESDU 17009
A practical guide to turbulence and flow measurement by thermal anemometry (CTA), laser-Doppler anemometry (LDA) and particle-image velocimetry (PIV)
Part 4: particle-image velocimetry
Abstract:
ESDU 17009 gives a detailed account of the principles of particle-image velocimetry (PIV), including single-camera and stereoscopic systems. Auto- and cross- correlation image analysis, using interrogation areas, is described together with adaptive correlation, using frame shifting and scaling. Post-processing methods to eliminate false velocity vectors are discussed and procedures for setup and calibration given. Emphasis is given to the safety requirements associated with laser operation. Flow charts are provided to help determine if PIV is appropriate for a given application and to aid configuration selection. ESDU 17009 should be read in conjunction with the introductory Data Item, ESDU 16001.Indexed under:
