ESDU 95026
Edge effects on the response of sandwich panels subjected to acoustic loading.
Abstract:
ESDU 95026 introduces two computer programs for calculating the surface strains in a sandwich panel with isotropic faceplates and a bevelled edge that allows for a solid edge strip around the panel through which the panel is attached to a stiff substructure. The theory accounts for the membrane strain that is introduced into the inner faceplate by the rotation of the bevelled edges. ESDUpac A9526 calculates the rms strain on the panel solid edge on the attachment line at the centre of the longer side. To allow correlation of measured and predicted data, a simulated strain gauge reading may be obtained accounting for location and length of the gauge. The faceplates must be of equal thickness and the panel is assumed to vibrate in its fundamental mode. ESDUpac B9526 calculates the ratio of the strains in the centre of the two faceplates. The faceplates need not be of equal thickness and the analysis applies to any mode having an odd number of half waves across the width. A sketch shows a comparison of measured results for edge strains extracted from the literature with predictions from the program. Details of the input and output are explained and illustrated by worked examples.Indexed under:
