ESDU 95007
Selection and costing of heat exchangers: plate-and-frame type.
Abstract:
ESDU 95007 extends the information in ESDU 92013 so providing updated budget cost estimates for gasketed and semi-welded plate-and-frame exchangers obtained from an analysis of results obtained using costing methods of two UK manufacturers. The costs are related to 'standard' designs for a range of hot and cold streams, including boiling and condensing flows, based on a typical fluid pressure and specific, most commonly-used plate and gasket materials. Cost factors are also provided which, applied to the costs of the 'standard' designs, account for variations in pressure, plate and gasket materials and plate construction. A comparison is made with the results from ESDU 92013 and 94042 for shell-and-tube exchangers for the same duty. The advantages of plate-and-frame exchangers are discussed, and exchanger and plate designs available are illustrated. Details of the calculation procedures used are provided. Worked examples illustrate the use of the method.Indexed under:
