ESDU 89044
Friction in bearings.
Abstract:
ESDU 89044 gives guidance on the coefficient of friction to be expected in a wide range of industrial bearings. Where appropriate, a sketch gives, for a particular example of each type, the behaviour of the coefficient as the load per unit area and the peripheral speed vary. Rubbing bearings considered include metallic, polymer and carbon/graphite materials rubbing against metallic or ceramic counterfaces, and solid lubricant and boundary lubricated bearings are also treated. Comments are also made about porous metal bearings. On full film bearings both oil-lubricated hydrodynamic and hydrostatic bearings are treated. Rolling bearings are also considered, the example being a deep- groove radial ball bearing, and a section treats wheels and rollers which may be used in overhead cranes, conveyors and bridge expansion joints for example.Indexed under:
