ESDU 83033
Stress intensity factors for corner cracks in loaded holes in lugs and wide plates.
Abstract:
ESDU 83033 provides data on the geometrical component of stress intensity factor at a quarter-circular or quarter-elliptical corner crack on the transverse diameter of a lug whose bore is loaded by a pin. The data are for two symmetrical cracks, one on either side of the hole, but a correction to allow application to a single crack is also given. The elliptical cracks may have either their major or minor axes along the lug bore. The data are given in tables at intervals sufficiently close to allow linear interpolation, and cover a range of lug geometry. Correction factors allow for the effect of variation of the distance of the lug bore from the flat end of the lug. Graphs illustrate the variation of the stress intensity factor with various geometrical parameters, and also compare the tabulated data, obtained by finite element analysis, with available experimental data taken from the literature.Indexed under:
