ESDU 82024
A guide to the selection of cam and follower type.
Abstract:
ESDU 82024 provides a method to suit any application with a rotating motion requiring either a translating or swinging output motion. The cam types are classified according to the output motion. The user selects a type according to the input and output required. More than one type may be suggested and further guidance is given to make a final decision against a variety of factors including an assessment of the problems that may occur specific to each type. For translating and swinging motion in a plane perpendicular to the cam axis, disc, face and cognate cams are considered. For translating motion parallel to the cam axis, the types are cylindrical, end and conical, while for swinging motion parallel to the axis, concave globoidal, cylindrical and end cams are treated. The choice of follower (roller, curved-foot or flat-faced) is guided by considering eight performance aspects.Indexed under:
