ESDU 79025
Fluctuating response of circular cylinders in small groups in fluid flow - discussion and guide to data available.
Abstract:
ESDU 79025 discusses the mechanisms that cause flow-induced response and outlines various methods by which the response can be reduced. It then reviews the parameters that affect response and indicates their relative importance. The flow velocity, velocity profile and turbulence are considered together with cylinder material, geometry, and mass and stiffness distribution. The appropriate non-dimensional groups are introduced to assist the user to apply data obtained for one set of circumstances to a different set of conditions. Finally, the information available in 85 sources of experimental data in the literature is reviewed in a systematic tabular presentation. In each case, the configuration and geometry of the cylinder group is indicated, the construction of the cylinders is specified, the flow parameters listed, and a clear indication of the type of data presented is given. With that information the user can select the test conditions most closely comparable with the problem under consideration, and can then assess the response likely to be met.Indexed under:
