Equilibrium temperatures in self-contained bearing assemblies. Part IV: heat transfer coefficient and joint conductance.
Abstract:
ESDU 78029 is one of a group of five dealing with this topic. It gives formulae and graphs that enable the convective and radiative heat transfer from surfaces typical of those dissipating heat from a bearing assembly to be estimated. Typical values of emissivity are included. Information is also given that enables an approximate estimate to be made for the heat conductivity of joints between common metallic materials. Knowing the heat dissipation, and with a knowledge of the thermal resistance established from ESDU 78028, the temperature rise can be estimated. ESDU 79002 gives comprehensive worked examples that illustrate the use of the method. ESDU 78027 provides a first estimate of temperature rise and should be consulted first to decide whether the refined analysis of ESDU 78028 and 78029 is necessary for any particular case.Indexed under:
