ESDU 71016
Fluid forces, pressures and moments on rectangular blocks.
Abstract:
ESDU 71016 provides mean (time-averaged) force, pressure and moment coefficients for use in the estimation of forces, pressures and moments on single rectangular-sectioned blocks or prisms as a result of fluid flow past them. The basic information on force and moment coefficients is presented for solid or impermeable blocks with sharp edges in an unbounded, smooth, uniform, low-speed flow for Reynolds numbers greater than 1000. Corrections for edge rounding, turbulence and lower Reynolds numbers are given. Average and local pressure coefficients for a number of block shapes are given and an estimation procedure for determination of pressure distributions on surface-mounted blocks of any rectangular shape is provided. Interior pressures in permeable blocks are discussed.Indexed under:
