Convective heat transfer during forced crossflow of fluids over a circular cylinder including free convection effects.
Abstract:
ESDU 69004 presents convective heat transfer data in non-dimensional form for crossflow over a circular cylinder. The cases of horizontal and vertical cylinders are covered and the data apply for gases and for liquids with the exception of liquid metals. The regions of applicability of separate forced convection and free convection correlations are shown in terms of the Reynolds number and product of Grashof and Prandtl numbers. Allowance is made for the effects of variable properties for both liquids and gases and for the effects of cylinder inclination. The ranges of experimental data used in the correlations are tabulated together with the distribution of errors with Reynolds number, Prandtl number and Grashof numbers.
