ESDU 16002
A practical guide to turbulence and flow measurement by thermal anemometry (CTA), laser-Doppler anemometry (LDA) and particle-image velocimetry (PIV)
Part 2: constant-temperature anemometry
Abstract:
ESDU 16002 gives a detailed account of the principles of constant-temperature thermal anemometry (CTA). Typical single- and multiple- component hot-wire and hot-film probe configurations are described, together with their application in various media, setup and calibration procedures. Special considerations, such as the need for temperature compensation in some applications, are also discussed. Guidance is given on cabling and optimisation of the bridge-circuit and signal-conditioning settings. Other applications for which the basic CTA circuitry can be used are also described. Flow charts are given to help determine if CTA is appropriate for a given application and to aid probe selection. ESDU 16002 should be read in conjunction with the introductory Data Item, ESDU 16001.Indexed under:
