Elastic stress concentration factors. Geometric discontinuities in flat bars or strips of isotropic material.
Abstract:
ESDU 09014, which supersedes ESDU 69020, presents data on stress concentrations that occur in flat bars or strips when they are loaded in tension or bending. The various geometries for which data are presented include strips containing central or off-set circular holes, elliptical holes, slots, U-shaped edge notches (either a single notch in one side or opposed notches), flat-bottomed opposed notches and fillets at changes in the strip width. For each geometry, the cross-section on which the reference stress is based is given. The data apply only to isotropic materials that obey Hooke's Law. Closed-form equations for the calculation of stress concentrations that occur around centrally placed holes or variously shaped notches and fillets that lie within specific bounds are presented.Indexed under:
