ESDU Vibration and Acoustic Fatigue in Nuclear Facilities

Vibration and acoustic fatigue failures during service life can have a critical impact on the facility safety and operation. Methods for estimating the response and fatigue life of structures subjected to acoustic loading are provided. These simple and efficient methods can be used to design reliable structures for use in areas of intense sound and vibration.

Data on the natural frequencies of plate, box and shell structures are provided to assess the acoustic fatigue life of these structures. These vibration data have a wide application in dynamic design calculations where it is necessary to ensure that the natural frequencies of structural components do not coincide with a high-energy region of dynamic excitation.
