ESDU 08006
Example of risk analysis for an aircraft subject to performance errors
Abstract:
ESDU 08006 is one of a series of examples concerned with the treatment of risk within the context of the performance of commercial air transport. This example should be read in conjunction with the introductory Data Item on the treatment of risk, ESDU 08003, and other examples of risk analysis, ESDU 08004 and ESDU 08005.This example of risk analysis considers a small aircraft being operated in a hostile environment subject to performance errors because the ambient conditions are not accurately known. A number of factors will affectaircraft performance and these are clearly seen, and can be accounted for, when the Aircraft Flight Manual or equivalent performance document is available. However when the aircraft is operated in an area in whichaccess to airport data is not available, then an assessment of risk is necessary. This example makes use of a set of performance data, applicable to a small twin turboprop, to assess engine failure accountability in terms of climb capability of the aircraft.
